the Forgotten

Samurai

We all remember Saturday morning cartoons.   Captain Crunch Berries and the challenge of the Superfriends.  They were the coolest, most powerful super team on the planet and by God the most diverse.  With the edition of three guys I just knew were going to show up in a comic book somewhere, Apache Chief, Black Vulcan and Samurai,  the world famous Superfriends!
____ dunt ta da dunt dunt ta, dunt ta da. ___
Don't the music just start playing in your head?  Yes?  No?
For Samurai I bet it doesn't.  For these three to be ultra cool
super exciting  cult classics they've had a hard row to hoe.

Powers: Flight,  ability to control fire, wind and Ice.
Can become invisible, he's an unarmed black belt in some forms of martial arts he even has his own light saber. why didn't DC buy this guy from Hanna Barbera asap?

Well it all seems to have worked out for Samurai in these last couple of years.  He has two action figures and ................. maybe it's not going as good as it's suppose to.  But DC might have the license to the character now since he has made two appearances in DC comics and he's had two character copies of him in wind Dragon and the girl from Young Justice.  Also Samurai has two partners on the come up to mainstream media with him in Apache Chief and Black Vulcan.
Man seems like two is this guys number.

The DCUC is a spot on rendition of the classic Samurai from the Superfriends with all the articulation that the line is commended for. The only thing that was wrong is that the arms couldn't cross his chest to make the classic Samurai pose. The bad side to it all though is to be taken seriously in today's comic and animation world, he's going to have to put on some pants
(see custom figure beside him by: Iron Will).

Do I like samurai, yes, the figure, yes. Is Samurai going to get a title shot and a movie?
I'll let him tell you himself.

  1. I really really love that he has Linda Carter on his desktop. That was a brilliant touch. And yeah, now the song is stuck in my head. Which is fine, because I've had a Modest Mouse song stuck in there for days, and something needs to shove it out. I didn't even know he had an action figure, and it's a good looking one, too. But I'd say the chances of DC actually using him right now are slim. Why would they when they've got so many great (cough cough) ideas of their own?

    1. Yeah Samurai is another one those potential superstars that has fallen thru the cracks. And this just shows my guy is not alone on the proverbial post intergrated sidelines. But I'm trying to have some fun with characters and post in these days to come. To try and create an upbeat friendly atmosphere. I'm trying to feng shui the Tiger Cage.

    2. Always a noble ambition. And I enjoyed the blast from the past.

    3. I always try to drag the stuff I like right along with me into this new comic world :) you see I can't let go of the Superfriends.

My kids got me a Ninja for Fathers Day (I'm a happy camper) so instead of kicking the shit out of DC for not doing what I want them to do, I'm going to chop up some fruit for a smoothie or ice cream, haven't decided yet.

    4. It's Father's Day. Go for the Ice Cream. You deserve it. That's an awesome present, you've got some great kids. For Father's Day me and the spawn are watching Die Hard 2 and Spaceballs. Then I'm going to force them to watch me play video games. But I was nice. I fed them first. And got them fudgscicles.

    5. You go mom, fudgescicles all around, John Mclain on crowd control and video games to round out the day. At my house that's a piece of heaven.

    1. "Kaze no Yo ni Hayaku" I meant to put that into the post, I'm going back and a do that. Man it would be supercool if they updated Samurai, hell he's more interesting than Red Tornado.

    2. ooohh, i diss on red Tornado. don't say that to Dan. i like The Red Tornado but i think he's always been in serious need of a make over that look never worked for me. i saw your comment on the ROM blog check your email.

    3. I like Tornado (kinda) but he's so bland. And I never have liked the idea of a machine being elemental. Amazo, I hate them shits. Dan I luv ya buddy but Tornado could get replaced by the Samurai.

  3. Cute movie. Makes wonder if maybe I shouldn't have sold off those Samurai and El Dorado figures now;(

Idk if Samurai is showing up anytime soon, but I wouldn't saw he might never show up. Depends on the pitch and creative team really.

Kick-Ass custom figure by Iron Will by the way. He always does good work when it comes to figures.

Samurai, if slightly and intelligently updated, wouldn't be too bad of a character to use.
In fact me and some guys at my local comic store proposed an idea where Samurai, Black Valcan/Black Lightening, Apache Chief, and thus types of c-,d-list heroes formed their own JL group, but independent of the JL. Maybe call themselves the Super Friends or something and handle real issues like, immigration/boarder patrol, AIDS epidemic in Africa, and shit like that.

    1. Ahhh that's Bullshit, they would have to deal with aids in America and it's cohorts that used biological warfare against Africa. They can also deal with America and it's cohorts stealing African oil and deal with the modern day slavery in the Sudan; that America and it's cohorts are ignoring. The list could go on but I know you get the point.

But I like the idea though. Vulcan, Apache Chief, Samurai and Rema (maybe a few others) form their own JLA and handle bad guys anywhere they find em.

    2. Like a true JLI. Which was the intention behind that entire comic, although they got bogged down in so much red tape they couldn't cross borders a lot of the time. Maybe more of a Justice League Underground. Or a Justice League Without Borders kind of thing.

    3. Justice League Underground. that sounds like something I would go wild with. I can see the splash page in my head as we speak (type) and I even have the lead soundtrack. I feel a post coming on :)

  4. Exactly, a JL without boarders. Yep, that's how I'd set it up. Not to mention sneaking into certain countries and liberating kidnapped/stolen meta-humans. Sounds good.

    1. Yes sir, that's what's up. I was over at Dan's spot and he previewed a couple of books outside of the big two. They looked good, I believe I'm going to check one or two of em out. I'll let you know what the verdict is.

  5. Looking forward to it Tiger; I'm telling you, that's where it's at for the moment. Well that and anything else non-superhero related right now. Who knew right?
