the Elemental

Black Vulcan

Real Name: Unknown
Group Affiliation: Justice League America
(the Superfriends)
Power Set: Ability to manipulate lightning
from his hands.
Flight: transforms his lower body into pure energy, he becomes living lightning.  Can travel at the speed of light, spot weld microelectronics. Vulcan can go where ever light and electricity goes and even operate proficiently underwater.  Time travel is also within Vulcan's range of powers.  He fluctuates his body into pure energy in such a way that it opens a rift in space and time.

Like his comrade's Apache Chief and Samurai, Black Vulcan first appeared on the Superfriends cartoon. for that era Vulcan set the standard and opened the doors for the Black Superheroes of the right now.

He's also been locked into comedic roles and a target for so many jokes and hilarious cameos. Surprisingly  they've all been good for the most part.

And after all is said and done.  Vulcan still comes across as a legitimate Superhero.  At one time Alex Ross proposed to bring Black Vulcan into the Captain Marvel mythos.  Update him as a hero connected to Shazam.  DC rejected the idea. Imagine Black Vulcan painted by
Alex the Great One Ross.  How can you not buy into that?  OK, they didn't like the way Ross was going with it.  So rework it! Suburban kid rescues little girl from collapsed drain enclosure; secret passageway...rock of eternity...seven deadly sins blah blah blah,
speaks the new magic words _________and is transformed into Vulcan!  One of the champions of earth. Shazam is only one of the wizards so each wizard has a champion voila. Let's go fight some crime.

I also found out that DC alludes to Black Vulcan and Black Lightning being the same guy.

Retcon if you will.

A rework is definitely what's called for.
Because Super Volt needs some pants.

  1. They really did have a thing for short pants, didn't they? As much as I love nice legs on both men and women, I'm glad that's a fashion mod that's been replaced. Now if we can only do away with overly spikey hair...
I wonder if the reason they haven't brought Vulcan out is because Black Lightning is around? Although that argument doesn't really pass the litmus test, because how many heroes are there out there that duplicate powers? Plastic Man and Elongated Man, anyone? And they were alongside each other a lot. Even in an episode of JLU.
It would definitely be a viable option, especially if Sir Alex Ross were asking, ASKING, to do it. I'm amazed. I thought at this point if Ross asked, you said YES.

    1. That's what I thought too. The worrld of Ross is like.....I don't know what to say. But DC said nope.

Vulcan and Black Lightning could co exist. There's like a million Flash, speed type guys, so it could work.

  2. Man seriously, that whole Mythology: Alex Ross art book is insanely awesome. And to think of most or all those ideas that could've easily worked the or even to some to degree now in the rebooted universe.

And I'll echo your sentiments about BV getting no love from DC or a good number of people. If you think about it it shouldn't be that way ideally when considering the sheer amount of powers and abilities BV has. It's fucking crazy. He's his own one man Justice League just about!

    1. Yeah, If I was in that meeting room with Bat's, Wonder Woman and Supes going over who's going to be in the new League; I would be like "look, I don't care who you pick but that Vulcan guy is making the team. His powers are off the charts. And after everything is all broken up, he can fix it. What the Hell"

    1. I don't know, it's been floating around the net. The artist did a great job, I actually want to do a custom Vulcan that looks like this. If you run across his name before me let me know so I can give him his due for an amazing piece.

    1. Canary is super popular these days and I been waiting to see how she was going to be integrated into Arrow. I wanna see if Merlyn is going to become THAT GUY, the arch enemy to Ollie. This BT thing has re-energized the Agent.
